This past weekend I headed down to New Jersey with my friend Jenn for for our friend Haley’s college grad party. I love road trips for facilitating great conversation, catchy music, and tests of how well you can get yourself out of the inevitable hang-ups. The Alpine Boat Basin at the Palisades Park blew us away with its beauty. The party was outdoors, up on a wooden deck overlooking the Hudson River.
I was really glad I got to catch up with some college friends in a really cool new environment. It’s crazy how we can know people so well without ever knowing their foundation or home-base or backstory. We had a blast dancing around for hours. Jenn and I hogged the microphone for a good portion of the night, which I don’t regret, but probably should.
It was so nice to be apart of something so happy. Not to mention the enormous vegan buffet. My favorite dinner plates (although it’s hard to chose) were probably the Thai peanut noodles and the falafel, and for dessert, the chocolate cashew energy balls. I had never been to an all-vegan party so I went a liiiittle overboard. Celebrations like this should happen more often. I kinda feel like throwing an early grad party for myself.
Before the drive home (to stall leaving), we grabbed a cup of coffee and a Khalo rice bowl at the Art Cafe. Loved the baristas and the atmosphere of this Tel Aviv-inspired cafe.
The warm and sunny weekend filled me with feelings of love and gratitude for the friends I’ve made in college. And the party reminded me of the support I have back home. Grad parties are a perfect place to experience the blend of the two. It’s cool to finally be at the age where they mesh really well. This weekend was really refreshing and left me with a lot of positive feelings (a good sign that you’re hanging around the right people).
